Instagram Prompts Series: Prompt #1 - A forbidden love between a Christian girl and a Muslim boy during Medieval times
I am the girl
who hath admired you from afar
Lest our kingdoms shake
Lest they go unto war
I have seen your soldiers
Singing their hymns of glory
As if our city, they reclaimed
As if our majesty, no longer reigned
And I hated them,
I hated them.
But you, you were different
The smile you held as you tended to your horse
As you caressed the locks of its hair,
your fingers down, down
to its ends
It whinnied and you laughed
that naive, little laugh
that only I have seen, and that I have sinned
for desiring to keep that for myself
To watch you from this nunnery
Watch you from a place so secluded, so sacred, so holy
But what good is sacred
If it keeps me
From ecstasy
What good is righteousness
If it forbids me something so divine
As thou?
Alas, nothing is.
I hear your army cheer
"All hail the Sultan,
the gods go with him
and his sword"
-- the last hurrah,
before our city crumbles
before we are consumed by the flames
And so the Widow proclaims:
"And we rejoice upon this, we thank our Lord in heaven,
for He is now calling us to be in a better place."
